Hello, my name is Jamie Torrey. I have been married to my husband, Andrew, for seven years. We have a wonderful son, Jackson, who keeps us busy. I have been teaching at GLIS for 13 years and this starts my 14th. I went to Saginaw Valley State University for my undergrad and received my masters at Marygrove College. I have one sister, Ashley, and a brother, Justin. My sister lives in California and my brother lives in Bay City.
In my free time, I like to go to shop, travel, watch movies, and make books on shutterfly. I also enjoy going to sporting events with my husband. We frequently go to the Tigers, Lions, and MSU games. I have been trying to get better at cooking. My favorite meal to make is steak, mashed potatoes, and any vegetables. I love desserts, especially anything with chocolate. My favorite colors are purple and green.
I am very excited to start a new school year and look forward to my new students. My goal for each and everyone of my students is for them to learn how special they are and show them that they are capable of doing anything. I will strive to help all my students succeed in life. 2nd grade can be difficult for some students because it is a big change from 1st grade. Students start writing paragraphs, need to read fluently, and have daily homework. Your child will need to read 15 minutes each day plus they will have math homework throughout the week. They also must learn to work independently and how to use their time wisely.
